NEWS

21/12/10: Looks like the APF Chief Judge will be trialling E-Judging this year.  The DZ competition dubber will load the competition videos onto the judging hard drive as normal, but rather than stream the video to the judges room they will be uploading to a Judges Youtube Channel where the judges will be sitting around the country using the Youtube channel to judge the videos. We will still be sending videos from the dubbers hard drive to the canteen big screen so everyone can watch.

PLEASE note that the DZ public Wifi will be used for the judges video uploading SO PELASE DONT all sit on the DZ and download the youtube videos as you will KILL the DZ wifi and grind the judging to a halt.

Looking to get into a 10 way ? see messages from interested organisers below:

From Derek:

During the xmas boogie there will be a speed star competition. If you haven't competed/participated in a speed star comp then you need to get your baptism of fire. The speed star is exactly what it says, 10 jumpers exit the aircraft and as soon as the first bit of body is out the door, the stop watch is on. The aim is then to build a 10 way star as quickly as possible with no designated slots. Teams get points for speed and also if not completed, how many do get in. The norm is absolute chaos with the only rules being safety is still the name off the game. You need to have your star crest to compete, skills are the ability to get onto the star fast and safe, so diving down on a fast moving base and tracking away at the completion are about the most important. Last year we only had about 3 teams and we would like to get more as this is one of the funniest events in skydiving. Geoff and myself are already involved but the more the merrier. If you are interested let me know and we can get some teams going and maybe do a few practice jumps leading up to xmas. Remember we should have up to 4 planes at xmas so no waiting,

What is a 10 Way Speed Star ?

A team of 10 skydivers must exit the aircraft unlinked ie. with no grips and diving out one after the other as quickly as possible. The winning team is the fastest team to form a star formation.

There is a maximum working time of 25 seconds allowed so  teams exiting the aircraft from a lower altitude than normal 8,000ft.

APF 10-Way Speed Star Formation Skydiving Event Rules

1.1 Exit Altitude: 8,000 feet.

1.2 Working time: 25 seconds.

2.1 The Objective: To complete a 10-Way Star formation in the fastest possible time.

2.2 Number of Rounds: Three (minimum of one to complete the event).

3.1 Scoring Formation: is the largest star formation which is completed within the allotted working time of each round. A scoring formation need not be perfectly symmetrical, but it must be performed in a controlled manner.

3.2 Exit: The exit must be made from within the outer fuselage line of the door on the aircraft, that is, a "no show" exit. Breach of this rule within 10 seconds of actual exit (by either a team member and/or part of their equipment) incurs a penalty of 5 seconds per "show". Furthermore, each team member shall exit separately, that is, a "no grip" exit. Breach of this rule will incur a penalty of 5 seconds per grip.

4. Scoring: One point will be awarded for each person in the scoring formation. Completion time will be awarded for a 10-Way star formation held for a minimum of 3 seconds (holding time may run over working time). Formations are defined as being correctly completed when they have been evaluated as "correct" by at least half of the evaluating Judges.

5. Determination of Champions: The 10-Way speed star event champion is the team with the highest number of 10-Way stars with an awarded completion time. If two or more teams have an equal number of 10- Way star formations, placings will be determined by (in order of priority);

(a) the lowest accumulated time for completed 10-Way star formations,
(b) fastest time of any completed 10-Way star formation.

Further placings will be determined by the highest number of accumulated points.

6. Composition of Teams: Each team may comprise 11 team members, any 10 of which may participate in any one jump (plus freefall videographers as necessary).

Note: Specific Formation Skydiving competition and judging rules not covered above should be ascertained from the Formation Skydiving Rules in the APF Sporting Code.
